We live in a world where so much is happening that we forget how to truly treat each other. We forget to uplift one another and to embrace womanhood together. Too often, we see each other as threats and competition instead of partners, sisters, and allies.
It’s sad to witness, and even sadder to experience, this kind of treatment, especially from other women. I remember when I wanted to start an online business. I asked a friend, who was already successful in that space, for some guidance. We didn’t even live in the same city, let alone the same country, yet the answer I got shocked me. If you’re African, you already know the response: “It’s too hard and takes a lot of time.”
Like girl, I know it’s hard and takes time. But if I’m asking, it means I’m ready to put in the work. Why not give a hand instead of discouraging me?
So why do we do this? Why do we refuse to uplift others? What are we so afraid of?
Here’s what I realized: some people don’t want to see you grow. They fear that if you succeed, you’ll take what’s theirs, customers, recognition, or even just the spotlight. Some don’t want to see you rise higher than they already are. And the saddest part? Sometimes it’s your own friends or family who won’t help you take even one step up the ladder.
But here’s the truth: I refuse to associate with people who bring me down. I refuse to stay around those who see my success as a threat or who feel proud when I’m stuck in the same place they left me. Instead, I choose to surround myself with people who motivate me, celebrate me, and push me to become the best version of myself.
As women, we need to normalize fixing each other’s crowns and moving forward together. We need to recognize the fake ones, step away from negativity, and build a culture of real support and true friendship.
That being said, I need info on how to start an online business in… LOL, just kidding.
Take care of yourselves.
